Net.hr is one the oldest and most popular news portals in Croatia. With age comes the technical difficulty of maintaining an old custom CMS and with being one of most visited sites in Croatia comes a problem of serving millions of pageviews reliably.
WordPress VIP hosting platform met our requirements because it already reliably serves billions of pages each month and they do it by using a secure publisher-centric open source platform. All the code that runs on their servers is reviewed for efficiency and security, what ensures quick loading times and reliability.
In this talk we will talk about our experience with creating a new theme for Net.hr and moving to WordPress VIP hosting. From initial contact to developing a theme, code review and finally the launch. The process has been a learning experience and we grew as developers. Today we a have a great website that is constantly being updated while being reliably served to millions of users.
